| The
aims and object of FOHC Trust
as laid down in the Cemetery's Memorandum and Articles are:
The
Charity's Objects
-
To
promote the public benefit in relation to Highgate Cemetery
by any means appropriate or likely to preserve it as a place
of historical and other interest and
beauty,
-
To
permit the Cemetery (or such part thereof as may be available
for the purpose) to be used as a public burial ground, and
-
to
secure the repair, restoration and preservation of the Cemetery, its monuments
and buildings and other artefacts and their setting for the public benefit.
In
furtherance of the objects but not further or otherwise the Charity
may exercise amongst others the following powers:
-
To
speak and act on on behalf of all who care for the Cemetery
... including those who cherish the memory of persons buried
there.
-
To
secure public access to and enjoyment of the Cemetery upon such
terms and conditions as the Charity
shall determine.
-
To
conserve the natural plant, animal
and bird life of the Cemetery and so far as practicable
of its surroundings.
-
To
protect and preserve the monuments
and buildings within the Cemetery.
Because
burials still take place and because grave owners, family and relatives are frequent visitors,
all our visitors are expected
to observe a proper dignity, and behave and dress appropriately.
Further
and most importantly, because revenue from the sale of grave spaces
will eventually be exhausted, the need for volunteers
will be imperative, if the Cemetery is to remain open for grave
owners and visitors of all descriptions, whether researchers,
media programmers, writers, school children, genealogists or
just individuals interested in one of Europe's
most notable monuments.
We
always need a helping hand
Volunteers
are much appreciated. If you can help in welcoming the public, selling tickets and
publications, occasional working parties on landscaping and planting,
or by training for guided tours, please telephone 0208 340 1834 |
